Electric Garden

In tribute to the recent passing of Mr. Bert Jansch, iconic UK folk guitarist & singer, we give you, "Electric Garden" - a brief stroll through pastoral United Kingdom folk during the late 60's & early 70's. Even the most analog of musical genres could not help but be transformed by the artistic & cultural revolution of those heady times. As the world turned on and tuned in, folk music grew electric hands, psychedelic minds and progressive legs. But regardless of these genre mutations, folk's ol' ticker grew stronger, developed an unapologetic honesty & emerged more fearless than it had ever been.

Thrown in for good measure, we've also included a song by the young UK troubadour Johnny Flynn, who along with with his pickin' peers Mumford & Sons, Laura Marling & others, are representing lovely for the nu-folk scene of modern day Britain.

Firecrackers & Airplanes

For those of you who aren't British, Guy Fawkes was an Englishman who tried to blow up the House of Parliament with 36 barrels of gunpowder on November 5th 1605. He was part of the "Gunpowder Plot", a failed assassination of King James I of England in an attempt to restore a Catholic monarchy to the land. Dude was eventually caught, tortured and hung. Every subsequent November 5th since then, folks all over Great Brittania go buckwild and celebrate "Guy Fawkes Night" by setting off fireworks, lighting bonfires and torching effigies of Mr. Fawkes.

So in honor of Guy Fawkes Night, we give you 46 minutes and 33 seconds of "Firecrackers & Airplanes." Recorded on July 4th 2011 in Seattle, WA using a Marantz PMD222 portable cassette recorder (using the built-in condenser microphone) onto a Maxell XLII 90 tape. It may be the most satisfying audio experience since "Reign In Blood."

Oh, and those "V for Vendetta" masks our peoples have been rocking at the Occupy protests? Those are actually Guy Fawkes masks. Better ask somebody.
