NEWARK – Vericast, a national marketing, analytics and payment solutions firm, is expanding through a nationwide hiring push that could bring dozens of jobs to Delaware.
The San Antonio, Texas-headquartered company has a diverse portfolio of products and services, ranging from printed mail coupons and ads to payment solutions and digital ad services for a number of banks and credit unions. In Delaware, it operates an office and printing plant off McEntire Drive near Newark along the Maryland-Delaware border.
Once a number of subsidiary holdings of Harland Clarke Holdings Corp., the companies including the Newark plant’s Valassis were reorganized under a single Vericast brand in 2020. In the two years since, it has refocused its holdings, including selling two of its most-visible products: the mailed Clipper Magazine that reaches an estimated 25% of American households, and the RetailMeNot coupon website.
It continues to engage directly with brands on multichannel marketing and ad campaigns ranging from grocery stores to banks, furniture retailers to restaurants, and more.
Michael Stanush, head of people, talent, performance and culture at Vericast, told Delaware Business Times that the COVID-19 pandemic and the transition to remote working opened up additional opportunities in the digital space for the company.
It is currently hiring about 250 positions nationwide, including 74 total remote and on-site positions in the Delaware area, ranging from the tech-heavy DevOps engineers, data scientists, and Amazon Web Services (AWS) scientists to logistics, production and maintenance technicians at its production plant, Stanush said. The company currently has 120 total remote and on-site employees in Delaware.
As his team interviews candidates, Stanush said they are hearing a greater desire to have a remote-friendly workplace, where office space is available to those who want it but isn’t required of every employee. It’s the tactic that they are offering in Newark.
“Without question, a lot of people care about it being a remote-capable job, but what that looks like comes with a lot of variances between people,” he said, noting that Vericast strives to offer that balance and understanding in a tight labor market.
Any new hires seeking office space would be located at the Newark location, where there is still room to grow, officials said.
While Vericast has sold off Clipper Magazine, it still produces a large number of printed direct-to-consumer ads and coupons for clients that are “still super important and super beneficial to our consumers,” Stanush said. The Newark printing plant is one of 25 such plants around the country.
As manufacturers around Delaware reported difficulties finding prospective employees right now, Stanush said Vericast is promoting its competitive hiring package and the opportunity to grow in the company. It also uses employee resource groups, ranging from a broad diversity, equity and inclusion group to a military veteran group, that helps to welcome and integrate new employees, and has served as an effective word of mouth benefit.
“We do see potential to grow in Delaware, that’s why we’re there in the first place. Without question, that area of the East Coast is one that we have long targeted and continue to feel strongly about,” Stanush said.
